Wetzikon / Apeldoorn, October 23, 2012

R&M, the Swiss manufacturer of cabling systems, has appointed Edgar van Essen as Managing Director Western Europe. He succeeds Richard Eichhorn who was promoted to CSO at R&M’s head office in July. Van Essen and his team will work intensively on the Western European market, with a focus on the existing R&M customers, Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), Fiber-to-the-Office (FTTO) and data centers.

Since graduating in business administration from the University of Groningen, 46 year-old Edgar van Essen has spent the last 20 years working in senior management positions at Alcatel Lucent. Moreover, he is also a co-founder and board member of the FTTH Platform, the Netherlands, and has also been heavily involved with the FTTH Council Europe.

More intensive market development
Western Europe is one of the most important markets for R&M with a big growth within the last years. A 30 member team supports customers 10 countries including the Benelux region, Great Britain, France and the Nordics. Last year R&M opened a branch in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands as one of the key sites in their Market organization.

"R&M is principally known as a manufacturer of quality Swiss cabling systems for buildings and data centers, but not everyone knows that it is also a specialist in the West European markets in public fiber-optic solutions for homes and offices", explains Van Essen. "That is why I shall be using my experience and knowledge for the benefit of existing customers and also to intensively develop the FTTH and FTTO markets in Western Europe with our partners. R&M can provide innovative products and solutions in this regard and these have already helped us expand successfully within countries such as the Netherlands."
