R&M at ECOC 2008: Solution Provider for High-end Fiber Optic Networks – Premium Partner of
Carriers on the Way to Next Generation Networks - The topics in Brussels: innovations, quality and standards, operational reliability and investment security, efficiency and profitability

At the ECOC 2008 Exhibition in Brussels the Swiss cabling specialist R&M  takes to the stage as the leading international solution provider for high-end fiber optic networks and as the quality-conscious premium partner of carriers on the way to Next Generation Networks. At Booth 359 at the ECOC Exhibition at the Brussels Expo trade fair, R&M will also be providing information on innovations such as the compact and universally applicable SC-RJ fiber optic connector.

Entirely in keeping with Switzerland’s concept of quality R&M has all the latest information on the current classification of fiber optic products. Two key R&M products, the SC-RJ and E-2000™ (*) connectors, already comply with the future Grade A*, i.e. the most stringent quality level for fiber optic data and communication networks.

With its clear-cut classification R&M helps the planners and network managers of telecom companies with the application-specific selection of patch cables and pigtails. As a result they are able to make their purchase decisions more quickly and effectively. Using simple means, telecom companies can increase the availability of their valuable fiber optic networks. “Reliability starts with the connector,” says R&M and showcases handy, quick-to-install coding and locking systems.

R&M supports the FTTx strategies of network operators with a comprehensive range of fiber optic components. The innovations featured in Brussels include the Venus Box FML – a small distributor designed to make the arduous task of ensuring the fine distribution of fiber optics in urban and residential areas more swift, efficient and profitable than before. A topical example of the successful use of the Venus Box is the high-performance network that is currently being set up in Cologne, Germany’s media metropolis. NetCologne, one of the country’s largest regional carriers, is building one of the fastest data networks in Europe. The network in question is a full-coverage FTTB infrastructure with a 100 Mbit/s transmission performance through to the end user. With direct access via optical fiber, NetCologne is offering products that were previously not possible at this location.

For many carriers, the current structural change in the market ushers in a transition phase that is difficult to calculate in terms of technology and business. In most cases, there is no silver bullet for short-term entry into the all-IP world (except to install completely new networks). It is all the more important to have infrastructures that serve legacy networks as well as the new network designs. They must offer the carriers the required flexibility, investment security, and cost efficiency with regard to cabling. This is where R&M comes into play as a quality-aware solution provider.

The R&M solutions for carriers are modular-based and suitable for network operators of every size, for every topology and FTTx strategy. The portfolio ranges from central office and hub solutions through products for main and distribution networks to small distributors, splitters and WDMs. All systems and components are compatible and can be installed, expanded, managed and maintained with little effort. Network operators are therefore able to implement their modernization and migration projects as required, either immediately and completely or gradually, allowing them to respond appropriately to different market scenarios and to maintain high levels of operational reliability for a manageable investment.
