Efficient Cable Sharing with RMS45

R&M has developed a microsplitter for standard RJ45 connections that can be used flexibly / Up to four services from one jack / Installed in one step / Connector assembled on site

Wetzikon, December 2007.
The Swiss cabling specialist, Reichle & De-Massari (R&M) has developed a new Cable Sharing solution for standard RJ45 jacks. The name of the product is RMS45. It is composed of a microsplitter and field terminable connectors for patch cords. The splitter made of die cast zinc is inside the RJ45 jack and can be installed or removed in a single step. The innovation complies with the relevant standards. It is compatible with most RJ45 jacks of well-known manufacturers and can be integrated in the R&Mfreenet LAN cabling system. RMS45 supports the performance classes Cat. 3, Cat. 5e and Cat. 6 or telephony and network applications requiring Fast Ethernet. Unlike conventional adapters, the splitter does not protrude from the outlet. A flat frame is fitted at the exterior of the jack. Numbers and individual color clips that can be inserted into the frame mark the four plug-in positions. R&M highlights the benefits. In the words of the Swiss market leader: "With the RMS45 microsplitter solution the implementation of Cable Sharing has never been so simple.” The existing structured cabling remains unchanged. The splitter is used only where multiple use of a link is absolutely necessary. Once the need for Cable Sharing is no longer needed, RMS45 can be removed and used elsewhere. Unshielded as well as shielded cables, up to a diameter of 5.5 mm, are compatible with RMS45 connectors. They are wired with Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC). Up to four services can be made available with the one-pair connector, e.g. telephone connections, via a RJ45 jack. With a two-pair connector, jack use is doubled: e.g. as a LAN connection for PC and VoIP terminal equipment.
