R&M, the globally active Swiss provider of cabling systems for high-performance network infrastructures, has published a new sustainability report. With the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report 2013/14, R&M once again proves that their company is managed in a transparent and environmentally aware manner, in accordance with GRI international standards. The CSR report details the relevant company activities in the areas of economy, ecology, and social issues. The report is produced every two years and is published on the website.
During the reporting period, the cabling specialist implemented further lean management measures and continuous improvement processes. The whole company has intensified its international orientation in this period. These changes not only affected the headquarters in Wetzikon, but also the production facilities in Poland and Bulgaria, which were incorporated into the sustainability report for the first time. "Our aim is to ensure a permanent increase in efficiency across all levels, in order to guarantee R&M's position as a sustainable company," emphasizes CEO Michel Riva.
According to Michel Riva, R&M's continuous improvement processes have helped avoid wasted resources and damage to the environment. The last two years have seen the achievement of milestones, such as the implementation of an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001. This system serves as a guideline for all ecological activities along the value-added chain, which has an impact on logistics, for example. While all products went through the central warehouse in Switzerland in 2013, 80% of deliveries will soon be made directly from production sites. "This means that R&M is not only reducing transport distances, but can also respond more quickly and flexibly to customer requirements. Such ecological and economic approaches will strengthen our competitiveness in the international market in the long term," says Michel Riva.
With new products such as the infrastructure management system R&MinteliPhy, R&M also aims to help their customers save energy and resources. R&MinteliPhy enables the automatic monitoring of data networks and ensures the installations are used to their full advantage. In conjunction with the right cabling, this system can help to reduce the energy requirements of a data center by up to 10%.
Following the report, CEO Michel Riva asserts that: "For the last 50 years, R&M has been operating on the basis of exemplary ethical values for an independent Swiss family business." The CSR report includes details of the company's attitude and management model. The 50-year history of the company highlights the sustainable foundation of the company philosophy. The CSR report follows the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international organization promoting sustainable economical and ecological activities in business and society.
