Power over Ethernet (PoE) is the power supply via data cables. PoE is used by network devices that require little power. These are typically cameras, WiFi connection points, all-in-one PCs (Internet kiosks) or other devices. The connection of the devices takes place in the LAN via a single standard RJ45 patch cable. There is no need for an additional power supply cable. On which RJ45 port a PoE power supply is connected at the other end of the link, can only be found out by trial and error or with a measuring devices.
R&M has taken up this challenge and developed a solution for quick and easy detection of PoE on a connection. The R&M PoE Indicator is a dust cap with integrated PoE detector, that shows reliably and independently of the PoE application type whether the port can be used with PoE. The illuminated or flashing LED informs you on which RJ45 port PoE is present. The PoE Indicator can be plugged into any existing RJ45 jack.
For unused ports, the PoE Indicator is also a practical dust cover that can remain permanently in the RJ45 jack. It is used instead of any normal dust cover.
If a PoE power supply is connected to the opposite side of the link, you get an immediate optical signal on which port it is connected to. This is especially helpful in hard-to-reach locations and dark environments.
You save valuable time and can be sure from a distance that the signal is present at the desired port. You will plug your device into the right socket at the first attempt.
Random trial and error is replaced by a predictive display. You save time and reduce inconvenience.
R&M‘s patented PoE Indicator uses the management signal present in every PoE system to drive the LED for display. An additional power supply (such as a battery) is not necessary.
The port administration of managed PoE switches is not negatively affected by the PoE Indicator. A port with PoE Indicator plugged in is marked as not in use.
The PoE Indicator works for end span and mid span devices both. All IEEE PoE protocols are supported (802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt).
