R&M, the globally active developer and provider of high-end infrastructure solutions for data and communications networks, is launching solutions for cabling telecom infrastructures. The newly developed CONEXIO line contains everything that mobile operators and tower companies need for the fiber-optic and electrical connection of 5G and 4G radio units.

HEC-BR outdoor connector

The CONEXIO line is used to set up infrastructures for Fiber to the Antenna (FTTA) and Power to the Antenna (PTTA). The range includes site-specific cable systems with IP-protected boxes (CONEXIO flexx), cable head terminals (CONEXIO easy), and divider solutions (CONEXIO lite) as well as jumper cables on the RRH side. In addition, solutions for connection technology and overlength management on the BBU side. The HEC-BR outdoor connector is brand new. It is available in various variants: as LC Duplex, SC Simplex, and MPO-12 connectors and, in the future, also for hybrid power and fiber-optic connectivity in outdoor areas. The connector range is also designed for simple installation in harsh ambient conditions.

With its complete FTTx portfolio, R&M covers the network levels from the central office to the terminals, which also include macro cells. The portfolio includes solutions for main distributors and distribution and access networks, as well as for aerial and drop cabling through to network termination. «This enables R&M to offer end-to-end solutions for fiber-optic telecommunications infrastructures from a single source all over the world,» says Thomas Ritz, R&M’s Market Manager Public Networks.

«The flexibility of the CONEXIO line makes it possible to configure cabling solutions for any environment, topology, and application. The products are manufacturer-neutral, compatible with existing installations, and can be expanded,» emphasizes Thomas Ritz. R&M assembles and terminates the CONEXIO solutions for antenna sites ready for installation ex works. In addition to the infrastructure solutions, R&M is introducing a consulting program. R&M wants to provide comprehensive support to mobile operators, tower companies, municipalities, municipal utilities, and property owners. R&M has extensive expertise in the design, planning, and construction of public telecommunications networks in the FTTH area. «We will now increasingly bring this expertise to bear as a partner in 5G rollouts in the global FTTA project business,» says Thomas Ritz.

As expected, a considerable amount of macro cell cabling for 5G rollouts is planned on a site- and operator-specific basis. Structural constraints, climate, ice, and wind load often play a decisive role when it comes to installing mobile communication antennas and cabling radio cells in a reliable manner. Optimal premises and connectivity options must be found in every district. The question of which 5G applications the operators want to provide at the respective site also influences the design. Some operators require special measures, their own housing design, or local engineering. Prior to rollout, access and ownership rights, building permits, logistics, partnerships, and synergies must be clarified, or known future upgrades must be taken into account. All of this presents numerous challenges. R&M is happy to talk to all parties involved in order to create optimal FTTA infrastructures for macro cell sites during the transition from 4G to 5G.
