The setup of FTTH networks can be accelerated. Reichle & De-Massari (R&M), the globally active developer and provider of cabling systems for high-quality network infrastructures, is convinced of this. With the ZOONA splice closure, R&M is aiming to help make Fiber to the Home (FTTH) reach consumers faster. The ZOONA is a compact and robust, mechanically sealed splice closure suitable for classic FTTH network expansion and aerial deployment. R&M is currently launching the splice closure on the global market.

With the ZOONA closure from R&M, telecom companies can expand their FTTH access networks more quickly. The exterior distributor is easy to attach to buildings and masts.

The waterproof, impact-resistant ZOONA splice closure can be installed at locations such as assembly shafts, masts and street cabinets. It has integrated wall holders. With the appropriate accessories, it can also be attached to round masts. The pre-terminated inlay with R&M fiber management offers solutions for splice connections and splitter modules. The «QIKseal» seal for cable entries covers various cable diameters and cable types. The «QIKseal» system enables easy and efficient handling. Assembly can be carried out conveniently outside the splice closure without affecting cables already installed. The robust, mechanical sealing of each cable and the secure snap-in of the cable entries with tactile and acoustic feedback are also convincing.

Assembly requires neither special tools, time-consuming work preparation nor special expertise. ZOONA is an innovative and at the same time cost-effective solution. Business and private subscribers can thus benefit from convenient connections in suburban regions.

Capacity starts at 48 fibers

The capacity of the R&M ZOONA splice closure family starts at 48 fibers and four FMTS trays. Depending on the split ratio, the basic version can supply well over 100 FTTH subscribers. Further ZOONA closure variants are being planned.

Connecting housing estates more quickly

With the use of ZOONA in the pre-con version and pre-terminated aerial cables with IP-protected outdoor connectors, suppliers can set up FTTH access networks for entire districts or rural communities in just a few weeks. The ZOONA splice closure is ideal for the expansion of additional fiber optic connections, e.g. for 5G antenna sites and IoT applications in urban or industrial environments. This will benefit local utility communications networks as well as large industrial companies with their own 5G network coverage and smart cities with professional citizen services.

FTTH more urgent than ever

«In light of recent global developments, Fiber to the Home and the expansion of FO networks are becoming increasingly urgent,» says Thomas Ritz, Market Manager Public Networks at R&M. «Today, fiber optic connections are part of the basic supply – like water and electricity. The more we work, study and use digital services from home, the greater the demand.»
