Patient Room Cabling
The antimicrobial R&MhealthLine products will help to reduce the risk of cross-contamination with microbes by touching the exposed cabling elements.
The risk of hospital-acquired infections
The risk of hospital-acquired infections cannot be overestimated. Even in countries with the most advanced hygiene standards, nosocomial infections, or health care-associated infections (HCAI) as they are also known, are by far the most common infectious disease. HCAI are one of the top ten causes of death. According to WHO, the risk of dying with a hospital infection is twice as high as the risk of dying in a road accident.
Exposed cabling components
Electronic media is available at each bed so that the patient can recover in comfort following treatment. Furthermore, data connections for medical equipment are also available near the bed. Patch cords and data outlets are among the components touched daily by patients and hospital staff. Conventional cabling technology relies solely on cleaning to maintain hygiene. The antimicrobial R&MhealthLine products will help to reduce the risk of cross-contamination with microbes by touching exposed cabling elements.
The power of silver
R&MhealthLine products are equipped with an antimicrobial additive. The used additive contains silver ions and is mixed into the plastic during the manufacturing process. It cannot be rubbed or wiped off. For the entire lifetime, it inhibits the colonization of microbes on treated plastic parts in accordance with ISO 22196 (test cases: Staphylococcus aureus & Escherichia coli). The latest results also demonstrate an effectiveness in shortening the survival time of some viruses (e.g. Norovirus) on the surface of protected products.
R&MhealthLine provides a comprehensive portfolio for patient-oriented, antimicrobial network connectivity. This healthcare portfolio is an extension of the R&Mfreenet system for structured LAN cabling. It offers the same convenience in terms of installation and operation as standard products.
The R&MhealthLine range includes:
- Outlets with RJ45 sockets for local data and communication networks
- Shielded Cat. 6A and unshielded Cat. 6 patch cords for connecting computers, medical devices, telephones, call systems, multimedia terminals etc.
- Protective caps and coding elements of the R&M security system
R&M partners install the products all over the world in healthcare facilities like wards, operating rooms, emergency rooms, nursing homes, rehabilitation and health care facilities. Other applications for R&MhealthLine include laboratories, food preparation, education and other public applications.
