Collapsed Backbone

In the Collapsed Backbone configuration, the optical splitters are placed in the centrally located building distribution cabinet. This means that a relatively large number of fibers are handled in one central location. Collapsed Backbone topology optimizes administration.

In the Collapsed Backbone configuration, the optical splitters are placed in the centrally located building distribution cabinet and all fibers are installed from the work areas to the building distributor. This means that a relatively large number of fibers are handled in the distribution cabinet. But the infrastructure management itself is improved because everything can be operated from one location.

In order to maintain the philosophy of structured cabling, it is recommended to terminate the vertical and horizontal fiber optic cables separately from each other in a connection box and then to connect them with a patch cord only when placing in service.

The segmentation allows a high degree of flexibility during installation and allows the use of connection cables which are optimally aligned, in terms of specifications to the installation segment.

By designing clearly separate segments, measurement points are created and each segment can be individually measured, documented and managed.

A collapsed backbone structure not only optimizes administration but is also secure in the future because only with a few patching actions s a point-to-point (P2P) structure is created.
